Your Complete Cubensis Growing Journey

So you've got a Cubensis grow kit and you're wondering what's next? Good news – it's easier than you think. We'll walk you through each step so you can watch your mushrooms grow from tiny pins to full harvest. No complicated science, just simple steps that actually work.

The Essential Steps:

  • Environment first: Maintain 20-25°C in a clean space with indirect natural light
  • Kit preparation: Pierce the substrate surface, soak for 60 minutes, then drain thoroughly
  • Growing setup: Add lukewarm water to your grow bag, insert the kit, and seal properly
  • Patience phase: Keep sealed until pre-pins emerge, then provide daily fresh air and gentle misting
  • Perfect timing: Harvest when the veil beneath the caps begins to tear

Keep Things Clean

Here's the thing about mushrooms – they're pretty sensitive to contamination. Wash your hands well, clean your workspace, and pick a spot that's not drafty or moldy. You want natural light but not direct sun beating down on your kit. And whatever you do, don't put it on the floor.

Quick tip: Our grow bags are designed to give you the best shot at success. You can try other methods if you want, but this way works.

Step 1: Initial Setup

Carefully remove the lid from your grow kit and set it aside—you'll need it again shortly. Find a clean, stable surface away from floor level to work on.

Step 2: Surface Preparation

Using a clean fork, gently create holes across the substrate surface. Aim for 6-8 rows of holes—this helps the substrate absorb water more effectively.

Step 3: The Soaking Process

Fill your kit with clean, lukewarm water. Replace the lid and let it soak for exactly one hour. This hydrates the substrate and prepares it for optimal growth.

Step 4: Drainage

After soaking, remove the lid and carefully pour out all excess water. Allow the kit to drain for about 10 seconds to ensure proper moisture levels.

Step 5: Grow Bag Preparation

Add approximately 0.25L of clean, lukewarm water to your grow bag (0.5L for 2100CC kits). Carefully place the kit inside, ensuring the water level stays below the substrate surface.

Step 6: Creating the Perfect Environment

Seal your grow bag by folding the opening and securing it with the provided paperclip. This creates the ideal microclimate for initial growth.

Step 7: The Waiting Part

Find a bright spot (but not where the sun hits directly) and just... wait. Keep that bag sealed tight until you see tiny little pins starting to form. This can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks depending on how warm it is. The mushrooms need lots of CO₂ right now, so don't peek!

Still nothing after 4 weeks? Don't toss it yet! Snap some photos of your setup and get in touch with us.

Step 8: Daily Check-ins

Once you see those first tiny pins, it's time to give them some fresh air. Open the bag once a day and give the sides a light mist – just a spray or two with clean water. Don't spray the mushrooms themselves though.

Step 9: Harvest Time

You'll know it's time when that thin veil under the cap starts to tear. That's your cue. Just twist each mushroom gently at the base and pull it up. Simple as that.

Getting a Second Round

Want more mushrooms? You can usually get a second batch. Clean off the surface, fill it with lukewarm water again, and stick it in the fridge overnight. This "cold shock" tricks it into starting over. Then just repeat from Step 4.
